Menurut  Nars   dalam Jurnal Manajemen Transportasi  (2008:116)     definisi ketepatan waktu adalah :  “Ketepatan waktu ( on time performance ) adalah  catatan dari ketepatan waktu perusahaan penerbangan pada keberangkatan dan kedatangan penerbangan ”. Airline (Perusahaan Penerbangan)

Perusahaan Penerbangan ( airline ) adalah salah satu jenis bidang usaha bergerak pada bidang jasa transportasi udara. Pada masa kolonial, awal abad ke-20 (1928) banyak orang berkata "hebat" atau "keren", jika mendengar seseorang berkata dirinya berpergian dari satu tempat ke tempat lain menggunakan moda (alat angkut) udara. Kamus Besar Bahasa Indonesia, perusahaan penerbangan ( airline ) dibagi dalam dua suku kata. Perusahaan adalah organisasi berbadan hukum yang mengadakan transaksi atau usaha dan Penerbangan adalah perjalanan dengan pesawat terbang, lalu lintas dengan pesawat terbang. Flight Operations Officer.

Civil Aviation Safety Regulation, definitions and abbreviations, menjelaskan secara rinci mengenai flight operation officer sebagai berikut :  “Flight operation officer – a person who is authorized by an air carrier to exercise operational control over a flight”. Artinya s eseorang yang dipercayai oleh operator atau perusahaan penerbangan ( airline ) dan diberi tanggung jawab atau wewenang terhadap pengawasan ( control ) segala bentuk kegiatan pengoperasian pesawat udara.
